Angullong Fossil Hill Paddock Blend 2022 Central Ranges

Winery Overview
Tucked into the scenic foothills of Mount Canobolas, Angullong Wines calls the cool-climate region of Orange home. Sitting at a high elevation in New South Wales, this unique landscape, about 350km west of Sydney, is known for its rich volcanic soils and crisp, clean air. The 2022 Fossil Hill Paddock Blend brings together Marsanne and Vermentino in a fresh, textural style that captures the beauty and energy of this remarkable place.

Vintage Conditions
The 2022 growing season was defined by cool evenings and a long ripening period, allowing each grape variety to develop bright, lifted aromatics and natural acidity. Combined with the elevation and well-drained soils of the region, the result is a vibrant and expressive white blend with real presence and finesse.

Winemaking Process
Handled with care from the outset, the grapes were harvested at night to preserve their freshness, using a selective harvester that keeps the berries whole. Gently pressed, the juice was then fermented in a mix of new and seasoned French oak puncheons. Regular lees stirring added weight and texture, resulting in a beautifully layered wine that speaks of place and precision.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in colour with a soft green glint, this wine greets the nose with bright aromas of citrus, melon and stone fruit, underpinned by delicate floral, spice and fresh pea shoot notes. On the palate, it’s fleshy and well-rounded, offering a lovely interplay of peach, citrus and white nectarine. The subtle oak adds depth without overshadowing the fruit, and a gentle acidity ties everything together with elegance and flow.

Food Pairings
A wonderfully versatile wine that lends itself to a range of dishes – from grilled fish and seafood pasta to chicken with tarragon, risottos or herbed vegetable platters. Its texture and balance also make it a delightful companion to soft cheeses or light, fragrant curries.
